- Vertical Farming Japan Workshop 2012
Funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), the world's first workshop on practical commercial applications for closed-plant growing systems for year-round production of vegetables was held on March 26, 2012 in Yaesu, Tokyo. This workshop brought together experts from industry, academia, and government ? including experts in field logistics for working in space and other harsh environments from the US and Dr. Toyoki Kozai, Emeritus and Visiting Professor at Chiba University, a world leader in the research and development of enclosed artificial light plant factories ? to discuss the future of the plant factory industry. ClassBiz served as the executive office in Japan for this one-of-a-kind workshop. Guests for this event included Dr. George Kantor from Carnegie Mellon University, Dr. Gene Giacomelli from the University of Arizona, and representatives from the US Department of Agriculture, as well as businessmen, investors, and researchers at the forefront of this field from 28 organizations in Japan.
